Nike Women has a great social media strategy for twitter and Facebook. They are constantly updating their profiles with inspirational, and motivating pictures and phrases such as their slogan “Just Do It” They have just released an app called Nike Training. This app allows you to search different workouts, track your workouts, calories, minutes etc. And the best feature is it connects with your friends and your social media profiles. This type of networking is a great way for advanced, intermediate and beginner athletes to stay motivated by having your peers watching your progress, which would make most people not want to fail in front of their friends.
I commented on their video post explaining the benefits of the app, following the rules of engagement guidelines. These guidelines help with properly engaging with brands on social media, while keeping yourself viewed in a professional manner.
One of the main priorities of engaging in social media is to bring companies and brands to a personal level, to make the consumer feel important and their opinion valued. As a business it is very important for brands to answer any questions or comments that have been posted on their social media site. I commented on a video on their Facebook on Thursday February 5th 2015 and they have yet to reply to my comment. I posted on this particular post because I have something in common with this post where I use this app. One of the rules of engagement is “participatory” meaning a brand interact with consumers by answering questions, commenting and thanking the consumers that respond to their posting efforts. I noticed they responded to an earlier comment referring to how great the app was – similar to what I had posted. They replied to that app with a great intriguing response, which is another reason why I chose this post in hopes for a reply to start some dialogue. But I did not get one, yet anyway. I understand that they are a huge corporation and don’t necessarily have time to comment on every persons thoughts, so at least they have seen my comment and enjoyed the compliment on their app.
Social media can either make or break your reputation. Conversing in public is much different than online. Your tone and facial expressions are not seen as in normal conversation, so it’s always important to have a few guidelines to follow to make sure you are not being obnoxious, rude, and negative. That is what the rules of engagement are for to help people join in and have constructive conversations that help the brand grow. Being authentic, resourceful, and credible in your posts will help you look professional and knowledgeable in your social media conversations.
Every single brand might not return your comments and thoughts on their wall, twitter feed, and comment section, but chances are you have been heard by the company. But from a business perspective it is extremely important to participate in your publics thoughts regarding your product or service so they know they have been heard.
The world is big place but thanks to the internet and social media the world is getting smaller and smaller. Who knew that we would be directly talking to big corporations that we all thought didn’t care about us.
