Cure for the February Blues

I thought we were in the clear for snow this year until January hit.... it snowed, and snowed and snowed.... and is snowing right now! There is a light at the end of the tunne, if you feel like you've been cooped up inside all winter, try SNOWSHOEING!

I tried it this winter and there are so many healthy benefits to it, mind & body. There are a number of reasons why I decided to keep it near the top of my favourite winter activities.

1. Low Prep Work- All you have to do is bundle up as usual, slide the snowshoes on and start walking. I prefer to go to a nature park, like rockwood park, and hike some trails.

2. Cheap - Only cost is gas, and the initial purchase of the shoes, other than that just enjoy nature.

3. Socializing - Enjoy your friends company and have some quality time together making memories, whether it's with your family, friends, special someone, it's a great way to interact with people outside.

4. Burns Calories - This is a great way to exercise and not even know your exercising. Depending on the terrain you can burn anywhere from 300 calories to 1000 calories in an hour. And believe me, time fly's.

5. Low Impact - Compared to some winter sports such as skiiing and snowboarding, this is a low impact sport, great for beginners.

I would highly encourage anyone who is tired of looking at the snow, go outside and enjoy the benefits of what this time of year gives you! Maximize your full potential.
