Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper once worked together as personal fitness trainers on the show The Biggest Loser. Jillian had a reputation for being aggressive and almost mean to help push her team to success. Bob usually took a softer stance by connecting with his team. In my opinion they are both great models to look up to and learn from.
The two articles I chose to read were both incredibly interesting, Bob's was very informative especially since I am woman; it was called: Double Standard: Women must work harder to lose weight published in Time Magazine and written by Bob Harper. Jillian’s article was more on a personal level; interview style, written by Stephanie Dolgoff. It had some great insight on how she stays motivated and healthy. Her article was called Live Big: Jillian Michaels on Exercise, Weight Loss, and The Biggest Loser published in fitness magazine.
The titles of both articles were very descriptive which gave me a very good understanding of what was going to be discussed in the article. Bob Harpers title did peak my interest more than Jillian’s because it better related to me and my current situation. Since Bob Harper’s article was factual based he did support his claims with science and evidence. It was also written in Time Magazine which is a widely recognized and popular magazine. Jillian Michael’s article was personal and she backed herself up with years of firsthand experience in the fitness industry, it was feature it Fitness magazine who specialize In this industry which would make it reputable in my opinion. I found the Double Standard was more reputable because he did state where he found his information from and what studies were conducted to come to that conclusion.
Jillian and Bob both have personal brand that they need to maintain and grow, and writing public articles and engaging with the public helps them stay connected and reputable to the public. This form of communicating is a great way for them to build their brand by; Bob’s article informed the public of perhaps a problem many women struggle with; and in Jillian’s case connect and bring herself down to a personal level so her fans know she is an everyday person with her own struggles.
It was apparent that Bob was writing his article as normal way of communicating with the public to market his personal brand, by writing a very factual and informative article. Depending on what relates to your life at the current moment, it is hard to say which one is better. They both were equally interesting, one was solving an unknown issue, and one was connecting and learning how to maintain a certain lifestyle. I would rate them equally as a 10/10 for usefulness of the information.
